New Years Eve...

Keeping in tune with today's Blog Dare topic, I would like to talk about New Years Eve- and drunk driving....this is going to be my last post, besides my scheduled posts, until after the New Year.

Drunk Driving Fact:

One person is killed every HALF HOUR due to a drunk driving related accident!

According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) drunk driving related crashes rise greatly between the two week period surrounding Christmas and New Years Eve.  On an average day, there are 36 fatalities everyday on American roadways... During Christmas this rises to 45 avg daily fatalities, and rises even higer, to 54 avg daily fatalities on New Years Eve (source: 2007 report from NHTSA)

Driver education and campagins have made it so that drunk driving is less socially acceptable and is becoming less common, but there is still a long way to go.  M.A.D.D (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) estimates that "an average drunk driver has driven drunk almost 80 times before their first arrest!!" and that almost 10,839 people will die this year alone from drunk driving crashes- that is one person EVERY 50 MINUTES!

PLEASE drink responsibly this year... not just around the holidays, but ALL YEAR LONG... you could be saving a life by doing so!

Understanding .08...  head on over to M.A.D.D.'s website and check out their chart on the effects alcohol has on your body and driving.

Hope everyone has a GREAT New Years Eve!!!  See you in 2012!

Product Review...

After over a year of using a Swiffer wet jet, and constantly having to buy more pads/solution, I decided to try out a Libman freedom spray mop at the local grocery store.  I liked the idea of it... having a washable pad and refillable solution bottle, so you could put whatever you wanted in there!  But the part that sold me is NO BATTERIES!!!!

I've been using it for a few months now and I have to say I am in love!  I have tile floors throughout most of the house, and with two kids and two pets, our floors get dirty!!  I love that I can put whatever solution I want into the refillable container, and when I am done all I  have to do is throw the pad in the wash!  And did I mention, no batteries!?!!!  (I HATE that everything has batteries now-a-days!)

*I am not being reimbursed in any way for this review or trying this product.  I purchased it at our local grocery store and was truly impressed with it's quality and thought I would share*

Todays Topic: How I really spend New Years Eve

Having two little kids means New Years Eve isn't really different than any other day.  I remember "back in the day" when I used to go out, or even stay up until the ball drops...Now though... I put the kids to bed about 8pm and start my bed time routine of checking my mail and getting the house picked up, then it's off to bed.  I always say I am going to stay up to at least watch the ball drop, but I don't.

Let's face it, the kids don't know any different and will still be up at 6am New Years Day anyways, might as well actually get some sleep!

What are you New Years Eve plans?

Humane Society Euthanizes Man's Kitten Over Money

I recently came across this article by the Huffington Post.

To sum up the article, a Phoenix, AZ  man who brought his kitten into a local animal shelter to be treated.  The vet on staff told the man, who is a recovering drug addict, that it was going to be $400 to treat his kitten.  They refused to take payment over the phone from his mother, or treat the cat & while she wired money to them/him.  The animal shelter told him that if he signed over the car to them, they'd treat it and put it into foster care.  They didn't.   Instead, the very same day the kitten was put down.

The shelter is stating it's reasons for putting the cat down were: the gentleman's lack of funds, lack of veterinarians on staff to treat her, and a serious cut on her leg.   The thing is, had he had the money to pay for the treatment, the kitten would have been fine, AND would have been treated right at the same place...so it appears to me that their main reasoning for putting the kitten down was simply because he didn't have the money and they didn't want to deal with it.

It makes me so sad.  I know there is tons of over crowding in shelters around the U.S., and a serious lack of funds...but come on!  There had to be something they could have done for him.  He was a responsible pet owner.  He had hand fed the cat when it was just 4 days old.  He described the cat as having helped him stay off drugs for over a year, which is the longest he's ever gone.  He truly cared about that kitten.

The animal shelter's response is that this is no reason to pull funding, & if people do, it's only going to make cases like this happen more...that's BS if you ask me.  Come up with programs to help... this man may have had no $, but I would lay money that he would have done anything to save his kitten... PLUS, his mother was offering to give them money!!!!

Today's Topic: A look back on 2011....

2011 has been an...interesting year.  Looking very forward to moving on into 2012.  The best way I can think to describe our 2011 would be using my favorite hobby: photography.

In 2011 I started (but didn't finish) a photography project: "project365" so a lot of this pictures are from that, and can be seen on other posts in my blog....
