Weight Loss Wednesday

Photobucket

I have decided that for now I am going to do the CORE plan.  It's an old weight watchers plan that is low-carb based, but allows fat free condiments and fruit.  And 35 ww points/week for anything not considered condiments or low carb.

 I lost 3.5lbs this first week! I am happy with that, I know I could have done better had I not done  pizza and cake at Lucas' friends b-day party, but a girls gotta have some fun right?

 I have pretty much ate nothing but meat or veggies this past week.  My stomach is so used to that, when I do eat something with carbs it goes all crazy!  I had bread today for the first time in over a week and my stomach has been bugging me all day!   I really need to start adding exercise in but it's been hard finding the time to do it kid free.  I am thinking about getting a gym membership... then I can go while Lucas is in school & not have to worry about it....we'll see!

Sponsor Spotlight

Today's Sponsor Spotlight is all about A Lil Dash Of Diva!!  Head on over and check out her blog today!!  Her blog has a little bit of everything from fitness to reviews and giveaways!

Q: When did you start your blog and why?
A: I started my blog in 2008.  I have always wanted to write a book and I figured if I could write a blog and see if I was actually any good at writing I would someday write that book.

Q: What's your favorite thing about blogging?
A: My absolute favorite thing about blogging is the community of bloggers.  There is literally something for everyone.  The people I have met through blogging have become great friends.  I love that I can share my life and things I am interested in on my blog and that other people like to read about it!

Q: What book are you currently reading?
A: I have a few I am currently reading actually.  The Hunger Games, A Princess and Her Garden and In Search of Fatherhood.  One is for pleasure and two for book reviews on the blog.

Q: What's the hardest thing about blogging for you?
A: I think the hardest thing about blogging is that I want to join practically every link-up I find.  Something else that is hard to get used to is the drama that goes along with blogging.  There are a lot of really great drama free blogs so I try to stick with those and stay away from bloggers that stir up drama. =)

Q: What is your favorite tv show?
A: I have so many! Lol  I love me some True Blood, Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, The Biggest Loser, Criminal Minds, Hawaii 50…I could go on! lol

Q: So far, what is your favorite blog post that you've written?
A:  I have a couple actually; my most favorite though would be this one http://www.alildashofdiva.com/2012/01/social-media-and-me.html

Q: What's one thing you wish you knew how to do?
A: Knit or crochet!  I have tried to learn a few times and I just can’t seem to get it.

Q: What is your favorite food/meal?
A: I love Mexican food, Italian food, Greek food…I can’t really pick just one! haha

Toddler Time

So I know I post a lot about crafts for toddlers... I am home with my three year old 24/7 after all!  I need to find fun learning stuff for him or I'd go insane!

My 5 year old has to learn sight words for school.  We were given a list of 300 words, with probably 30 or so highlighted that they have to learn by the end of the year. He is so stubborn, I try to work with him and he just goofs off.  I never know exactly where he is at because I"ll think he knows a word but then the next time we work on them he'll act like he doesn't know it.

How his teachers have started quizzing them each Thursday and Friday on 3-4 different words each week...I want him to do well so I have found that I really am going to have to get creative if I want him to learn these darn words.  He likes to sound things out, but in order to get the word counted as him knowing it, he has to know it on SIGHT.

Here's what I came up with:

{These are all the words he'll be tested on over the next few weeks}

I took the note cards we normally use and had him tape them to his bedroom wall.  We talked about the words as we taped them to the wall so he'd hear and see them as we put them up.

Then, we turned out the lights!  I gave him a flash light and he was instructed to point the light at a card and name/say the word that was on the card.  He knew all but 2 or 3, and even those he sort of knew... like DO, he kept wanting to pronounce DOE, and WHAT he kept wanting to say W-HAT

Then the fun really started and we started making up sentences with the words.  By the time we were done with that, he really knew them, and we had so much fun together doing it!  I figured this was something my 3 year old could help up with, but he ended up falling asleep before we started, so that worked out even better {that's a big reason why my 5 yr old can't focus, his little brother is always nearby mocking us, lol}

::Flashback Friday::

I LOVE the fall! My favorite part is going to the Apple Orchard and the pumpkin patch! {and Halloween...ok, so I love all of it!!!} The picture above is my oldest @ 2 years old picking some apples.  I also really love this one:

Food Revolution...?

I was listening to the news yesterday while driving my oldest to school and this story really made me mad!  This would NOT be OK with me at all!!!

On January 30th a North Carolina State Agent told a preschooler that the lunch her mother packed {which was a turkey and cheese sandwich, a banana, chips and apple juice} was "insufficiently nutritious" and made her eat cafeteria food, which consisted of CHICKEN NUGGETS instead!!! Then, get this, the school CHARGED THE MOM FOR THE FOOD!

In North Carolina, the Department of Health and Human Services requires that all lunches {including those sent from home} for the pre-kindergarten program meet USDA Guidelines- which means that each lunch must consist of one serving of: meat, milk, and grain; and TWO servings of fruit OR vegetable...if the lunches from home lack any of those, the school is supposed to supplement what it is lacking...so instead of telling the child her mommy doesn't know how to pack a healthy lunch, couldn't they have given the kid some milk & another fruit/veggie?  Isn't that what supplementing means?  I can understand wanting the kids to eat healthy and teaching them about healthy foods, but isn't this just another slap in the face from the state telling parents we don't know whats best for our kids?

Did you know a public school in Chicago has put a rule in place that kids are not allowed to bring packed lunches at all unless they have a "medical excuse"...the reason? "to save children from  the irresponsible dietary decisions of their parents"... Really!? are you kidding me?! Has anyone watched Food Revolution with Jamie Oliver?

What do you think?

We Want To Know Wednesday

It's time again for We Want To Know Wednesday!!

{1} How was your Valentine's Day? It was pretty darn awesome!  Check out my post here!
{2} What is your favorite flower? Did your honey get them for you? I LOVE daisies!  Gerbera Daisies are one of my favorites.  He didn't get me any..he knows I wouldn't have been happy...flowers are seriously so overpriced on Valentines day...I'd rather him wait and surprised me something randomly.
{3} Was Valentine's Day a big deal when you were a kid? No, not really.  I mean it was fun because our classes always had parties {until middle school}
{4} Did you put up any Valentine's Day decorations? (bonus points for a picture) Not exactly...  I decorated the table for Husband though!

{5} Do you have any Valentine's Day traditions? No I don't have any traditions, but I'd like to start some.  Our dinner last night was so amazing, I'd like to do that each year!!  My 5 year old kept saying "mommy, it looks like someone's going on a date in here!"  I told him that me & daddy were since we couldn't go out! =)

14 Days Of Love Day 14!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!!!

Valentine's Day is finally here!  Started out the morning right and made a yummy breakfast for everyone including "heart" toast!

The toast is so easy to make and you could really do with any theme.  Since it's Valentines Day I used a heart cookie cutter and just firmly pressed it into the bread {before it's toasted}. Toast it and you're done!  The fun part is if you press hard enough you can even pop the heart out of the middle if you want!

After 13 days of little treats and presents, I felt like I sort of had to do something...bigger, for day 14... so I decided to give Husband what I thought I would like: a romantic dinner.  Since there was no possibility of us going OUT, it was going to have to be a dinner-in.

So first I went to the Dollar Store and picked up some fake rose pedals for the table.  Then my sister took the boys and I ran to the store to pick up the stuff for dinner {I didn't want him to see it before hand!}.  Off to the house I went to start making these:

Chocolate Covered Strawberries!!!

Work in progress....

Then I started on the red velvet cupcakes!  Luckily, Husband had to work out of town today so I knew he wouldn't just be popping in randomly, and he was warned to text me before he was even in town to give me plenty of time {he didn't know WHAT I was doing, just that I had something up my sleeve}

I decided on Steak, potatoes, green beans and garlic toast for dinner {Husband's favorite!}.  Since he doesn't drink anything with alcohol in it, I opted for the alcohol free wine{aka sparkling grape juice}.

Last Minute Valentines Craft {Guest Post!}

Quick easy last minute Valentine's Day project!!! Thanks so much to Deb over at Scattered Musings for sharing this awesome craft!! I am always at a loss for what to do with my extra scrap booking papers but hate to throw them away, I have a whole big box of them!! This will be perfect to use some up!

Card Stock Photo Frame

Items needed:

  • 3 - card Stock or scrapbook paper pieces- at least  5 1/2 inches wide X 7 1/2 inches long (contrasting colors)
  • scrap  pieces of various colored card stock/scrapbook paper
  • glue Stick/Scrap book glue
  • scissors
  • markers/Pens
  • 4x6 inch photo

Step 1 - Measuring and Cutting

Measure and cut 1 sheet of the card stock/scrapbook paper 5 1/2 inches wide x 7 1/2 inches long. This piece will become the main part of the frame.

Measure and cut 2 strips - 1 inch wide x 5 1/2 inches long (contrasting color from frame) These are the pieces that hold the picture into place. (figure 3)

Measure and cut 2 strips 1 inch wide x 7 1/2 inches long (use same color as you used above) These are the pieces that hold the picture into place. (see figure 3 above)

Measure and cut 1 piece  4 1/2 inches wide x 7 1/2 inches long. This will become the stand on the backside of frame. (figure 4)

Step 2 - Stand

Using the piece of paper that you cut to  4 1/2 x 7 1/2, fold it in half length wise. (figure 5)

Step 3 - Attaching Picture Frame Strips to the main frame piece

Glue the outer edges of the 2 - 7 1/2 x 1 inch strips and place on the main frame piece. Glued edges will be on the outer edges along side the frame piece only. Leaving the inner edges free.  (figure 6 and figure 6a)

Now for the other 2 pieces you will glue the bottom one the same as you did the side pieces, only putting glue on the outer edge, leaving the inner edge free. (figure 7 and figure 7a)

For the top part you are going to put glue on the sides only

Step 4 - Attaching Stand

Turn the main frame piece over and mark the center with a dot.  Take the stand piece and put glue along the edges of the long sides only.  (figure 9)

Lay the stand at the center dot with glue side down. Press the glued edges to the frame, don't press the center flat it's supposed to be in the shape of a V. (figure 10 - figure 10a)

On the top side of the stand (make sure it's the top part of your frame) put some glue along that edge and press down. It should look like (figure 11)

You should now be able to stand your frame up as in (figure 11 above)

Step 5 - Adding Picture and finishing touches

You can now slide a photo into the frame pieces.  (figure 12- 12a)

Decorate with paper hearts, ribbons, love words be creative. (figures 13 - 13 a-c)
This is a quick and easy Valentine's Day or any holiday gift. This craft can even be done with your child or children. I suggest that you have the pieces already cut, and the stand attached for younger children.
